The following is a list of many of the most noticeable changes to Simulator for Version 8.0.

  • New script file language that allows you to automate commonly performed tasks

  • Numerous enhancements to the Available Transfer Capability (ATC) add-on making it easier to interpret results

  • Numerous enhancements to the PVQV add-on that enable the tool to provide a clearer indication of reactive deficiencies and emerging voltage problems.

  • Added linear power flow solution technique to contingency analysis (DC power flow)

  • Automated Line Tapping

  • Automated Bus Splitting

  • Automated Equipment Transfer

  • Scale generation or load by injection group

  • Automated LODF Calculations

Along with enhanced abilities and tools, Version 8.0 continues PowerWorld Corporation’s singular dedication to creating powerful analysis software that is easy to use. We’ve included several new features that make navigating and interpreting the results of your analysis easy. We’ve also added the ability to read and write all data within Simulator from a single auxiliary file format.

  • Wildcard searching has been integrated throughout the entire program allowing you to quickly find the information you desire.

  • Numerous enhancements to the Contingency Analysis tool aid in the interpretation of contingency results.

  • New case information displays to show the MW Transactions, Jacobian, Y-bus, Advanced Filters, and more… You can also zoom in on a case information display.

  • A new toolbar providing you with quick access to common case information actions

  • New auxiliary file format that integrates all data within Simulator into a single text file format.

  • New equipment identification tool enables you to refer to system equipment using your company-specific names.

Simulator’s trademark one-line diagrams continue to provide you with insight into your analysis results in seconds. We’ve added a number of features that will make the creation of these diagrams easier.

  • Auto-insertion of switched shunt objects

  • Custom display detail helping you hide information on the diagram quickly

  • Record a movie from a series of Simulator diagram images.

Simulator’s engineering analysis algorithms continues to improve as well.

  • Improved Power Flow Convergence Techniques

  • Improved DC line modeling and convergence techniques

  • Advanced LODF Calculations

  • New models for three-winding transformers, multi-terminal DC lines, and series capacitors

  • Conditional contingency actions allow you to create contingencies containing events that are conditional on the pre-contingent state of your power system.
