What's New in Simulator 6

Engineering Functionality

Contingency Analysis: Version 5.0 introduced Contingency Analysis. Version 6.0 extends these abilities by allowing you to auto-insert multi-element contingencies. Report writing and data export are also vastly improved.

Injection Groups: Model a group of generators and loads that act as a group without changing the area/zone information using new injection groups.

MW-mile Calculations: You can now easily do MW-mile calculations.

PTDFs: Directly input the NERC flowgate definitions (at http://www.maininc.org/pubnerc/pubnerc_ptdf.htm) and calculate PTDFs, even for the contingency flowgates. Also find PTDFs for multiple directions.

OTDFs: Calculate outage transfer distribution factors for single line outages.

Improved Power Flow Convergence: Especially for cases with LTC and phase-shifting transformers.

Interface and Drawing

Bus Palette: A new palette that greatly helps you in building one-line diagrams.

Automatic Insertion of Loads, Generators, and Interfaces on a one-line

Saving Views: Want to save a list of commonly used views of your one-line? Now you can.

Contouring: Contouring has been modified to allow the specification of custom color maps. You can also contour area-based quantities.

One-line Links: Put links to other files in your one-line and open them directly from Simulator.

Data

Ownership Data: You can now define ownership information for equipment.

Outage Information: Want a list of what facilities are outaged? That's been added.
