New in Simulator Version 6.0

PowerWorld Simulator 15 has been released, featuring available Transient Stability and Distributed Computing add-ons. A free educational version with Transient Stability tutorial examples is available now for download.

Harness the power of multiple processors and network resources with available Distributed Computing add-ons. Distributed Contingency Analysis and Distributed ATC are now available.

Thank you to all who attended the June PowerWorld Client Conference in Portland, OR. The next conference and Transient Stability software training will be held August 17-20 at SCE&G near Columbia, SC.

A new white paper is available describing how to apply Simulator's analysis tools to
N-1-1 Contingency Analysis.

PowerWorld Simulator Training has been expanded and reorganized into 3 courses. New advanced courses in Markets and System Security contain more large-scale system examples. The intro course is also available online!

A FREE DEMO of Simulator 14 is available as a 12-bus evaluation version; includes OPF, OPF Reserves, SCOPF, ATC, and PVQV add-on tools!

PowerWorld Corporation recognizes PwrSolutions, an affiliate of PB Power, as an outstanding provider of consulting services and solutions using PowerWorld software.

PowerWorld is pleased to announce a joint collaboration with GXED.
A Chinese language version of PowerWorld Simulator is available for purchase through GXED. Email info@powerworld.com for details.

City Water, Light & Power (Springfield, IL) was awarded an Example of Exellence by NERC for using PowerWorld Retriever to enhance System Situational Awareness.

Harness the power of Simulator OPF with generator cost models ready to load into PowerWorld Simulator.

Enhancements and New Features in Simulator 6.0

The following is a list of many of the most noticeable changes to Simulator for Version 6.0.

Engineering Functionality

  • Contingency Analysis: Version 5.0 introduced Contingency Analysis. Version 6.0 extends these abilities by allowing you to auto-insert multi-element contingencies. Report writing and data export are also vastly improved.
  • Injection Groups: Model a group of generators and loads that act as a group without changing the area/zone information using new injection groups.
  • MW-mile Calculations: You can now easily do MW-mile calculations.
  • PTDFs: Directly input the NERC flowgate definitions (at http://www.maininc.org/pubnerc/pubnerc_ptdf.htm) and calculate PTDFs, even for the contingency flowgates. Also find PTDFs for multiple directions.
  • OTDFs: Calculate outage transfer distribution factors for single line outages.
  • Improved Power Flow Convergence: Especially for cases with LTC and phase-shifting transformers.

Interface and Drawing

  • Bus Palette: A new palette that greatly helps you in building one-line diagrams.
  • Automatic Insertion of Loads, Generators, and Interfaces on a one-line
  • Saving Views: Want to save a list of commonly used views of your one-line? Now you can.
  • Contouring: Contouring has been modified to allow the specification of custom color maps. You can also contour area-based quantities.
  • One-line Links: Put links to other files in your one-line and open them directly from Simulator.

Data

  • Ownership Data: You can now define ownership information for equipment.
  • Outage Information: Want a list of what facilities are outaged? That's been added.
